Anurag Rajpal has moved from his last assignment as business head of Trouser Town, Madura Garments, to take charge as business head, Apparel Vertical/vice president, Apparel, Spencer’s Retail – an RPG Group company. This marks his transition from apparel retail in an EBO/MBO format to that in a hypermarket format.
Spencer’s has 10 operational hypermarkets at present and another 10 are due to be added in a year’s time. Each hypermarket typically ranges from 30,000 square feet to 80,000 square feet, with almost 20 per cent of the space dedicated to apparel retail. The merchandise is a mix of national brands and private labels across categories.
In his new assignment, Rajpal’s responsibilities will include establishing the apparel business in supermarkets and hypermarkets for Spencer’s chain; buying from strong national brands across categories; creating strong private labels across categories for increasing gross margins; and managing apparel sales for stores across the country.
