Leading global watch manufacturer Seiko Watch Corporation of Japan plans to set up an exclusive flagship store in India as part of its plan for an aggressive foray in the premium and luxury segment.
“We’ll begin with one brand store this year in one of the metros which will showcase our entire product range,” Nilandri Mazumder told Indiaretailing. It is learnt that the company is planning to open its maiden store in Bangalore.
“We plan to roll out flagship stores in 11 other cities in the next three years,” Mazumder added. Initially, Seiko will set up six stores in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, followed by Ahmedabad, Pune, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Ludhiana and Cochin.
The company will also tie up with nearly 50 multi-brand premium watch outlets across India to push for sales growth. Targeting customers in the 25-40 years age group, the majority of the collections are priced between Rs 12,000 and Rs 30,000.
Recently, the Japanese timewear brand made a foray in the Indian market through its 100 per cent subsidiary called Seiko Watch India Pvt Ltd. However, it already has service centres operating for a decade in the cities of Kochi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Mumbai, and plans to set up seven more in the next three years.
