Lingerie manufacturer Triumph International is setting up its first Indian manufacturing unit at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai.
The brand has 16 manufacturing facilities all over the world. Although the company has a presence in India through Intimate Fashions, this will be its first own facility in the country.
Triumph has acquired 14 acres of land to put up a 500,000 square feet facility. In the first phase, it expects to employ around 1,300 people and will take it to over 2,500 in the second phase. Globally, the Switzerland-headquartered Triumph produces over 200 million units annually and has a workforce of about 42,000.
According to Jan Rosenberg, director, Triumph International, the company has invested close to $10 million in the facility.
About 80 per cent of the products manufactured in the factory in Chennai will be exported, while the rest will be for the domestic market. The average price range of the lingerie will be Rs 400 to Rs 1,200.
“We are currently focusing on women’s innerwear and are making sure Indian women have access to Triumph’s complete international collection here in India. The company also plans to shortly launch its premium menswear brand, Sloggi Men, in India,” said Rosenberg.
