Trent, one of the retail arms of Tata group, has refuted reports that it was entering into an alliance with its counterpart Infiniti, belonging to the same group, to have a joint venture with Woolworths, a $38 billion Australian major.
“It is just speculation and we have no comments to make on it,” head of Trent’s marketing division, Neeti Chopra told Indiaretailing.
Reports appearing in a section of the media said that the two retail arms – Infiniti Retail and Trent – were planning a joint venture for going into the supermarket segment with Woolworths, to form a new retail arm by the group.
Woolworth is Australia’s largest food retailer and the second largest private sector employer Down Under.
Trent already operates three hypermarkets under the Star India Bazaar brand, while Infiniti Retail has three consumer durable stores in a joint venture with Woolworths.
