Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), on January 12, will open HiQ – the first fuel retail outlet from the company at Maddur on Mysore-Bengaluru highway.
“We will be catering to an elite traffic as the highway remains frequented by holiday goers due to the presence of numerous resorts on the stretch,” Lekshmi M Kumaran, DGM – corporate communication, MRPL, informed Indiaretailing.
Understanding the opportunity of retailing at fuel station, Café Coffee Day and Baskin Robbins have also opened shops at HiQ. “This is our strategy to compete with the big players, as such outlets can help making it a preferred halting destination for travellers,” Kumaran added.
Speaking about the competition, Kumaran said, “There are outlets from Reliance and Indian Oil adjacent to ours, but we are confident to perform better with enhanced facilities.”
The outlet will be fully automated with only one attendant for customer service.
Commenting on the expansion plans, the spokesperson informed that within the next two years, the company will open an outlet in Hubli, and several more launches in Karnataka are on the cards.
