Spencer’s Retail, the retailing vertical of RPG Group, has planned to consolidate operations with two formats. Earlier, it had operations spread across five formats.
The two formats will have outlets spread between 3,000 and 15,000 square feet, and will be named Spencer’s, while those more than 25,000 square feet will operate as Spencer’s Hyper.
Samar S Sheikhawat, VP (marketing), Spencer’s Retail, said: “Our internal research suggested there is a lot of confusion created among consumers with multiple formats. In fact, all small-format stores had a similar merchandise mix, and the only difference was in service levels, look and feel. Now, all stores will have a uniform service level under two brands.”
The company plans to refurbish all its existing 373 small-format stores and 27 large-format stores with this new brand identity, covering nearly 1.2 million square feet of retail space.
Earlier, Indiaretailing had reported that Spencer’s has restructured its Ghaziabad outlet at Pacific Mall. Discussing the restructuring strategy, Anurag Rajpal, business head, apparel vertical at Spencer’s, told Indiaretailing that the store is one of the oldest outlets from Spencer’s and needed upgradation to deliver better services and experience to the consumers. He informed, “We have our flagship store in southern Kolkata, and the Ghaziabad store has been brought in sync with it.”
The company has also improvised its Gurgaon store, which was opened a year ago.
