Retailers and mall developers are also latching on to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) bandwagon. This Independence Day, for instance, New Delhi’s Select Citywalk will commit to the planting of a hundred trees and will also take an oath to maintain them in the future.
According to an official release, on August 15, 50 young girls from the Valaya Magic Foundation For The Girl Child will participate in singing the National Anthem and hoisting the National Flag, following which they will plant the trees and join the team of Select Citywalk for a traditional Indian breakfast.
Speaking to Indiaretailing, Rajiv Duggal, CEO, Select Citywalk, said, “The trees will be planted in the park, in front of the mall. We want to do our bit to halt the depleting green-ness of Delhi.”
Previous CSR initiatives of the company include screening films for underprivileged children. The shopping centre is also working with cancer patients and children from NGOs. As part of its CSR initiatives, the company has employed women in parking / security functions, and has also organised yoga camps, adoption of DDA parks, AIDS awareness campaigns etc. Duggal added that on September 22nd, on Cancer Rose Day, the mall will be inviting cancer patients to its premises and would organise a day of entertainment activities for them, which will include a possible movie screening by PVR.
