Emami eyes foreign brand acquisitions

Indian beauty and wellness major Emami is aggressively looking to acquire foreign brands as part of the company’s growth strategy, according to RS Agarwal, chairman, Emami Ltd.

Addressing the company’s annual general meeting recently at Kolkata, he said, “We are actively considering brand acquisitions abroad for which the blue print has already been prepared.” However, he did not disclose further details about the plan.

Explaining the performance of the company and its strategic investments in the domestic market, he added, “In the first quarter of the current fiscal, the company has picked up 27.5 per cent stake in Zandu Pharmaceuticals with an objective to be a part of management control along with the existing promoters.”

The company has recently started manufacturing products from its plant located at Guwahati, the third one after Kolkata and Puducherry, apart from strengthening its supply chain and sales force for smooth delivery of its products.
