Speaking at IRF ’08, Minister for Commerce and Industries, Kamal Nath said: “Indian retail is booming at its very best at present. It is not just the national players but also the international players are thriving for the space, which is up for grabs in the present retail scenario.”
He pointed out that the main challenge that lies in India is in the F&G segment. Being an agricultural nation, the main challenge in India remains and comes from this segment as around 40 per cent of the produce from the farmers are wasted and are rotting. With proper back-end and front-end operations, this reduction can be reduced to a greater extent.
He also pointed out that with this process the entire retail scenario in the rural sector will be enhanced and also the farmers and the players therein will be benefited in the long run.
