Speaking to Indiaretailing on the sidelines of India Retail Forum 2008, Sadashiv Nayak, chief executive officer, Food Bazaar, said: “We will come up with fresh meat and fish segment but not as an extension to our fresh zone in the Food Bazaar. We will operate these meat and fish counters in a separate enclosure like either adjacent or opposite to our F&G format in our hypermarkets.”
He further said, “We do not want to get into fish and meat retailing at the cost of our vegetarian shoppers. As in India, non-vegetarian consumers by large will stay loyal to their standalone retailers in the segment.”
“The company is working on strategising the venture and in another five to six months, we expect to come up with the pilot plan,” added Nayak.
