Sony to withdraw CRT TV range from India

Must Read

Japanese consumer durables major Sony has learnt to make an exit from selling CRT TVs in India. However, the company will continue its after-sales service and make available spare parts for the CRT TV range in India.

Sunil Nayyar, sales head, Sony India, said, “CRT TV segment was not a big segment, which used to contribute around 10 per cent of total revenue, has suddenly fall down to 5-7 per cent in the last couple of months.”

“We are strategising to convert CRT customers in India to LCD customers,” added Nayyar.

The group, which had stopped selling CRT TV range globally from 2005, used to sell the range in markets including Africa, India, Pakistan and the Middle East and has been planning withdrawal of the brand from India amid economic turmoil and bleak market condition.

Meanwhile, Sony India has also revised its revenue target from Rs 40 billion to Rs 38 billion for the financial year 2008-09.
