The market opened on a positive note this morning. The 30-share index Sensex opened with a gain of 116 points, at 9266 on Tuesday in line with Asian peers. Nifty too earned 33 points to start the day at 2817.
On Monday, Sensex closed higher backed by sustained buying interest seen in bluechip stocks- Grasim, ACC and Maruti Suzuki. Positive cues from European markets fueled the market sentiment further. Oil & gas and FMCG stocks rose whereas Realty stocks witnessed heavy selling pressure. Sensex ended the day with a gain of 82.60 points, or 0.91 per cent at 9,149.30 after touching a high of 9,302.75 and a low of 9,040.56. The broad-based NSE Nifty climbed 17.25 points, or 0.62 per cent at 2,783.90 after hitting a high of 2,831.70 and a low of 2,752.90.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 0.77 per cent and 0.42 per cent respectively. Among the sectoral indices, BSE Realty plummets 7.59 per cent, consumer durables dropped 2.85 per cent, while Oil & gas rose 1.44 per cent, FMCG was up 1.01 per cent.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Grasim Industries (7.15 per cent), ACC (5.10 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India (3.06 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.36 per cent), Reliance Industries (1.96 per cent), and Wipro (1.84 per cent).
On the other hand, DLF (13.25 per cent), Tata Motors (6.41 per cent), Reliance Capital (2.89 per cent), Hindalco Industries (2.82 per cent), NTPC (2.35 per cent), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.10 per cent) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
