Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) is planning to introduce new hair color products by mid-2009. With a substantial market share of 35 per cent, GCPL has been facing increased competition from international cosmetic brands such as L’Oréal, Revlon and Schwarzkopf, in the cream hair color segment.
“We will have a couple of new launches by the middle of this year both in the soap and hair color segment. But the focus will be more on the hair color segment, that too on value-based brands,” says H K Press, Executive Director and President, GCPL.
Last year the company re-launched its largest selling powder hair dye Godrej Expert with its extension of cream-based colorant Renew, which records higher growth rates in premium color segment.
According to a recent Angel Broking reports powder hair dye constitutes almost 50 per cent of hair color industry with oil-based liquids forming 25 per cent and cream-based comprising the rest.
