Tempur, a Denmark-based company specialized in sleep and comfort products, has opened its maiden store in India in partnership with Springwel Mattresses Pvt Ltd. Further, the company plans to open four more outlets in the first phase of expansion in metros that include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata and one store in Ahmedabad by the end of March 2010, informed a top company official.
Spread across 1,800 square meter, the store located at Central Market, Lajpatnagar in the national capital retails products including mattresses, multi-adjustible beds, seat cushion and travel pillow.
Speaking to IndiaRetailing, Puneet Sachdeva, marketing manager, Springwel Mattresses Pvt Ltd, said, “The products are available in the US markets for the last 12 years. We at Springwel have been distributing the products across India and our exclusive store is part of company’s plan to reach out to more and more prospective customers in the country.”
“We have planned to open six outlets by the end of March 2010 and initially we are targeting major metros like Mumbai and Kolkata, including Ahmedabad as one of the locations,” added Sachdeva.
Elaborating the product ranges, he stated, “We are dealing in three categories that include mattresses, pillow and accessories including car accessories like car comforter, transit support, travel pillow and transit pillow.”
The brand is currently available in 76 countries in the world. In Asia pacific region, Tempur is present in Thailand, Japan, China, Malaysia and Singapore. The price of Tempur mattress ranges from Rs 67,500 to Rs 325,000 each.
“The USP of Tempur products is pressure leaving. We have adjustable beds as well from Tempur and that can be reclined according to the individual requirement. Tempur has four ranges of pressure recliner in adjustable beds,” concluded Sachdeva.
The company invests around Rs 15-20 lakh per store and claims that the lead time is around three months. The company made open the options to partner with franchise for expansion in the long run.
