Wal-Mart hiring more than 150 for new store

Must Read

Local Wal-Mart officials continue to prepare for the big move to Clarkston’s supercenter.

And with more space comes more jobs. Lewiston Store Manager Brian Mansfield said it’s time to fill more than 150 positions at the new store.

“A majority of those positions will be on our food side,” said Mansfield. “We will have a full food variety now, produce, bakery, service deli, meat department, along with the full line of groceries and a frozen department, so a lot of those positions will be in there.”

Mansfield said the new store’s interior walls are in place, and a parking lot will be paved by next week. It’s set to open for business in July.

Both stores will be running at the same time for about a month, and Mansfield said the hiring process, which will start next week, will help during the transition.

“A lot of those people that have been hired on for these early positions will actually be going to the new store to help set up in the new store,” said Mansfield. “And some of them will work in this store to help maintain this store. We don’t want to leave the community without a Wal-Mart, so we actually will run the old Wal-Mart the entire time we are setting up the new Wal-Mart.”

The Lewiston store will close down on September 1, and the supercenter will hold it’s grand opening on September 2.

Mansfield said they may be able to offer up to 170 jobs at the new store, both full and part time, all with benefits.

“We’ve had a lot of people interested, a lot of phone calls wanting to know when we’re starting, when we’re hiring,” said Mansfield. “We’re hoping we can help out the community a lot by bringing these jobs here to the new supercenter.”
