David Novak, the CEO of Yum Brands Inc. was recently quoted saying that the company plans to open 1,000 outlets in India by year 2015. Confirming the development, Vinod Mahboobani, head of business development and legal functions, Yum Restaurants India, stated, “We will open 1,000 restaurants in India by 2015 across the three brands: Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell. Apart from the top 10 metros in India, we have identified 65 cities for expansion.”
“In India, the market will see a KFC-led growth with the brands achieving 120 stores from the current base of 57 by end 2010. Thereafter, we plan to open 500 KFC outlets by 2015,” Mahboobani informed indiaretailing. “As we grow our store count, we are also broadening the menu to make the brands more relevant to various consumer groups across day parts,” he added.
Mahboobani further said, “The fact that four out of six of our international brands are present in India speaks volumes of the importance of Indian market for Yum! Restaurants International (YRI).”
