Lars Olofsson, chief executive officer and board member of Carrefour, has appointed Vicente Trius as executive director, Europe and member of the group’s executive board, in charge of Belgium, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Cyprus and Romania.
Vicente Trius, a 52-year-old Spanish national, has spent most of his professional life at Wal-Mart, where he was successively completed his tenure of vice-president for International Operations, CEO, Brazil and CEO Asia. Until this year, he was Wal-Mart’s executive VP and CEO for Latin America.
Vicente Trius will bring to Carrefour his vast knowledge of retail and of clients in emerging and mature markets. His management skills and strategic vision of retail should allow Carrefour to pursue its expansion in its key European market. His appointment will take effect on May 3, 2010.
Within the executive board, he will also contribute to the process of transformation of Carrefour initiated by Lars Olofsson in 2009.
