Punjab-based multibrand fashion retailer Kapsons is looking to build its kidswear sub brand Kapsons Junior into a standalone retail brand. The retailer has already set up seven Kapsons Junior stores and plans to expand it as a separate category. Further, Kapsons is looking to spread its wings in 2010 by opening stores in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi/NCR, Jammu and Kashmir.
“We shall be investing Rs. 60 crores in the next three years to set up six more Kapsons lifestyle stores of 30,000 square feet each," Darpan Kapoor, director, Kapsons, told IndiaRetailing.
Kapsons logged a turnover of Rs.120 crores for fiscal 2008-09; for the year 2009-10, this grew to Rs.196 crores. “During the last quarter of 2009-10, we also opened 20 EBOs and two Kapsons stores, hence are expecting growth of 40 per cent for the current year,” Kapoor added.
Kapsons’ total retail network comprises 12 multi brand outlets (MBOs) and 55 exclusive brand outlets (EBOs).
Referring to the chain’s store expansion strategy, Kapoor noted, “We do have company owned and franchised stores in both malls and on high streets. Although rentals are pretty steep in the current scenario, expansion of presence is also a must.”
“At this time, customer confidence in Kapsons is very strong, a result of relationships built over the past 20 years," he added.
Speaking about customer profile, he said, “Our loyal customers contribute almost 40 per cent of our sales and they form the backbone for Kapsons in the north Indian market.”
