Beiersdorf’s research and development team has developed an innovative method, which allows the amount of UV protection on the skin to be visible and thereafter measured. Through this method, the researchers could decipher the amount of sunscreen that must be worn in order to achieve optimal protection. They also proved that most consumers use far too little. “Beiersdorf’s R&D department has now succeeded in making the applied amount of sunscreen, and also the intensity of UV protection visible with an infrared imaging spectrometer. It will now be possible to convince people visually to offer extra protection to their skin from the harmful UV radiation”, says Dr. Simone Presto, Medical Affairs Department, Beiersdorf.
