Pantene , CoverGirl and Max Factor brands under the P&G umbrella will help consumers reduce their carbon footprint, thanks to the company’s renewable and sustainable, sugarcane-derived plastic packaging. The company intends to use sugarcane-derived plastic supplied from the Brazilian company – Braskem, which manufactures the material using ethanol made from sustainably-grown Brazilian sugarcane. Unlike traditional plastic, which is made from petroleum, plan-derived polymers are based on a renewable resource, which is 100 percent recyclable. P&G expects the pilot to be rolled out globally over the next two years, with the first few products expected to be on the shelves in 2011.
