‘Croma Apps’ raises the bar on electronics retailing

Must Read
Large format consumer electronics stores in India are rapidly coming of age in terms of pushing the envelope on innovation. While all leading modern multi-brand retailers are actively pursuing opportunities in private labels and value-added services, some are entering the technology development space itself.
A front runner of this latter strategy is Infiniti Retail, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Sons Ltd, which has launched ‘Croma Apps’ – a software application store powered by Intel AppUp center. Launched on the sidelines of the opening of Croma’s 56th store – at Delhi’s Connaught Place market and spread over an area of 9,000 sq.ft – Croma Apps promises to revolutionise the retailing experience.

“With Croma Apps, we aim to cater to a variety of computing and entertainment needs of our customers. Croma Apps will be a one-stop destination for people who like to engage with new technology enabling them to personalise their computing experience,” said Ajit Joshi, CEO and MD, Infiniti Retail Ltd, on the occasion of the launch of the application.

The company says Croma Apps will offer a wide selection of free and paid applications for netbooks (for paid applications, one needs to shell out $1-3). With over 1,000 applications sprawling across categories such as entertainment, social networking, gaming and productivity, Croma Apps will be a hub for consumers.

“With Croma Apps, consumers now have access to a range of new applications that provide them with a choice of personalised and enhanced user experience on their netbooks,” said R Sivakumar, MD, sales and marketing group, Intel South Asia.

He added, “In particular, we are delighted that the developer community has shown interest in creating India-centric applications. Having localised content is one of the best ways to drive excitement on the netbook platform.”

Croma will pre-install the Croma Apps client on all netbooks and Croma pen drives retailed at their stores. The existing netbook users will also be able to download these applications by visiting Croma’s website.

Meanwhile, Croma expects a turnover of Rs.1,700 crore this year and will be investing Rs.40-50 crore on new store openings; the investment will be through internal accruals.

One of India’s largest speciality consumer electronics stores, Croma houses a wide range of local and global brands across product categories.
