In an attempt to offer French shoppers a tangible solution to speed up their shopping and reduce waiting times at the checkout, Carrefour has launched ‘Carrefour Blue Line’ – a new service to reduce waiting times at the check-out.
As part of the new service, a blue line appears on the floor in front of the check-outs, which marks a maximum waiting time. As soon as there is a customer behind the Carrefour Blue Line, the store’s check-out team will swing into action, bringing on additional staff, specially trained for the job and wearing “Carrefour Blue Line” gilets, to open a new check-out as soon as possible.
The new system has been trialled for several months in two pilot stores in La Ville du Bois (Essonne) and Aulnay sous Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis).
Research carried out by Carrefour shows that 95 per cent of customers think the initiative is interesting and 91 per cent think it is a very effective way to drive down waiting times at the check-out. Based on the conclusive results of the trials, Carrefour has decided to roll out the new service to all its hypermarkets.
