The face of India`s modern retail, Kishore Biyani, is now set to advise fashionistas of the high streets of New York.
The Managing Director and CEO of Pantaloon Retail, Biyani has become a member of the New York Fashion Advisory Board, at the invitation of New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The board works directly with New York City Mayor Michael R Bloomberg on issues affecting the city`s fashion industry.
"It is interesting that the board is looking for India`s representation. My involvement in the board will also provide us a global perspective on fashion," said Kishore Biyani. He explained that the Future Group is a leading player in India`s fashion industry, doing a business of Rs 3,500 crore across brands every year. "Now there will be more dialogue with the global fashion leaders. At least 4-5 meetings of the board are expected to be held every year," Biyani added.
NYCEDC aims to develop the city`s major business sectors by implementing policy and initiatives that address current issues faced by each industry, create jobs, and promote entrepreneurship and economic diversification.
Other board members from the business of fashion include Terry Lundgren, Chairman and CEO of Macy`s, Rick Darling, President Li & Fung USA and Kevin Ryan, founder of Fashion Gilt.
In 2007 Biyani was awarded the International Retailer of the Year by the National Retail Federation (NRF) of the United States.
