Fashion designer Ritu Beri has been honoured with the Chevalier Des Arts et Des Lettres award, one of the highest civilian awards, by the French government. The award is in recognition of her significant contribution to the enrichment of Indo-French cultural relations.
French Ambassador to India, Jerome Bonnafont, will confer the award on the designer on October 21 at his residence.
Beri was one of the fashion pioneers in the country to showcase her works on the catwalks of Paris, giving French fashion connoisseurs a glimpse of mystical India. Beri was also one of the first Indians to head a French fashion house.
Other recipients of the award have included Satyajit Ray, George Clooney, Lata Mangeshkar, Shah Rukh Khan and Bob Dylan.
