Noel Naval Tata has been appointed the Managing Director (MD) of Tata International on July 29 by Tata Group. He will cease to be the MD of Trent with effect from August 12 and will be based out of Mumbai.
Tata, 53, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, has stepped down as the MD of retail firm Trent where he will continue as its Non-Executive Vice-Chairman, said a company spokesperson.
Tata International Limited is engaged in a wide range of overseas businesses and trading of a variety of products like minerals, steel, ferro alloys and engineering products.
Under Noel Tata`s guidance, Trent grew from a single-store company in 1998 to a chain of over 90 stores across formats, including Westside, Star Bazaar, Landmark, Fashion Yatra, Sisley and Zara.
Trent has entered into a strategic franchise and sourcing agreement with Britain`s Tesco for the Star Bazaar business.
Noel Tata is a graduate of Sussex University and has an MBA from Insead in Fountainbleau, Paris. He is the son-in-law of Pallonji Mistry, the largest single shareholder in Tata Sons, the controlling arm of the diversified Tata Group, with an 18 percent stake.
