Small-format CDIT retail chain Intex Square, which made its retail debut with a maiden store at Meerut in September 2009, plans to take the franchise route to fuel its expansion plans.
Speaking exclusively to IndiaRetailing, Nidhi Markanday, DGM-Retail, Intex Technologies, said, “Currently we have 60 stores and by the end of the ongoing fiscal, we are targeting 100 stores. We also plan to have 300-400 stores by the end of FY’12.”
Of the company’s existing stores, only one is company owned, company operated (at GIP, Noida), while the remaining are franchisees.
“Initially, we were focusing only on the North India market, but now we have started focusing on the Western region, too,” informed Markanday.
An average Intex Square outlet is spread over an area of 300 sq.ft and offers PCs, netbooks, mobile phones, multimedia speakers, DVD players, UPS, web cameras, keyboards, mouse and headphones, among other products. Intex products are also available at more than 140 hypermarkets and speciality chains across India in the shop-in-shop format.
Intex Square is the retail venture of Intex Technologies, a New Delhi-headquartered manufacturer of computer peripherals, consumer electronics, PCs and mobiles.
