The Indian counterpart of German global giant, Henkel which is involved in Laundry & Home Care, Cosmetics/Toiletries and Adhesive Technologies, Henkel India, has decided to merge Schwarzkopf Professional with one of its existing subsidiaries. Henkel India retails Schwarzkoph Professional in the country. The move comes at a time when Henkel India is struggling to stay afloat and contemporaries like Godrej Consumer Products and Marico are growing at 19-20 percent. Launched over a decade ago in India, the Schwarzkopf Professional business, contributes around Rs 40 crore to Henkel India’s turnover. Says Debashish Mukherjee, partner and VP at consulting firm A T Kearney: “The go-to market model in haircare through salons is often carved out into a separate business to give a more focused approach to the business. This has been the case with both Unilever for Lakme, and Marico’s Kaya.”
