The L’Oréal Group has opened the L’Oréal Predictive Evaluation Center in Gerland, France. The facility said to be the result of 30 years of research and investment is dedicated to the predictive evaluation of the safety and efficacy of its cosmetics ingredients and finished products.
A total of €16m has been invested in the centre – €7m in 2000 and €9m in 2010 – which produces over 130,000 reconstructed biological skin and corneal tissue units per year. According to L’Oréal, in 2011, the Gerland centre will have the capacity to evaluate over 1,000 products (formulae or raw materials) for safety and 100 ingredients for efficacy. It will also act as an international hub connecting L’Oréal’s French, Chinese and Singaporean research and innovation activities.
