Footwear retailer and manufacturer Bata India has declared financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2011. Its PBT grew 55.5 per cent at Rs. 61.71 crores as against Rs. 39.68 crores in the same period last year. Net sales grew 22.7 per cent at Rs. 429.36 crores as against Rs. 350 crores in the same period last year.
Marcelo Villagran, managing director, Bata India, said: “The company has released excellent results this quarter, with increase in sales and profitability of the company. This increased profitability is the result of improved sales and margin from our shoe line and continued growth from our retail and non-retail businesses through rapid expansion, higher response to our collections, expenditure control, better customer service and growth in our customer base.”
Bata has opened 68 new stores until June 30 this year. These are based on its new large format and all are above 3000 sq ft. The company will continue to add over 70 new Bata stores every year. It has continued expansion of its Hush Puppies brand with the opening of five exclusive new stores and four shop-in-shops with department stores in the same period.
The footwear-maker has opened a new store in South Delhi at DLF Place Mall, Saket. Spread over 3,000 sq. ft., the new outlet offers a range of footwear and accessories including brands like Marie Claire, Hush Puppies, Comfit, Scholl, North Star, Weinbrenner, Reebok and Power. The retailer now has 59 stores in NCR.
Speaking on the occassion, Villagran said: " We are pleased to offer our customers yet another store in one of the premium and busiest shopping malls of the city. Our objective is to make shoe-shopping a pleasurable affair for our consumers. We sell over 50 millon pairs of footwear every year and serve over 1,50,000 customers every day."
