Bharti Walmart, a JV between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart Stores for wholesale, business-to-business and cash-and-carry operations in India, has opened its second store in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, eighth in the country. Spread over 53,000 square feet, the new store stocks over 5,500 items, including a wide range of fresh, frozen & chilled foods, fruits and vegetables, dry groceries, personal and home care items, hotel and restaurant supplies, apparels, office supplies and other general merchandise items.
Speaking on the occasion, Raj Jain, managing director and CEO, Bharti Walmart, said, “Madhya Pradesh is fast becoming a preferred investment destination. I see a convergence of our objectives and vision with Madhya Pradesh. Bharti Walmart has invested over $14 million in Madhya Pradesh and has created over 1000 jobs in the state. Our Business-to-Business Best Price Modern Wholesale cash-and-carry store in Indore will provide our members the benefit of low prices, convenience, wide choices, hygienic products and quality products all under one roof. We will continue to save our members money and help residents of Indore to live better.”
The Best Price Modern Wholesale store will also have ‘Mera Kirana’ program which shares retail practices with small and medium retailers on various aspects of using low cost modern techniques and processes.
Bharti Walmart is a business-to-business (B2B) joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India to serve small retailers, manufacturers and farmers. A typical cash-and-carry store stands between 50,000 and 100,000 square feet and sells a wide range of fresh, frozen and chilled foods, fruits and vegetables, dry groceries, personal and home care, hotel and restaurant supplies, clothing, office supplies and other general merchandise items. The JV is expected to open 12 new wholesale cash-and-carry facilities and employ approximately 4,000 people by December 2011. Currently, Best Price Modern Wholesale stores are present in Amritsar, Zirakpur, Jalandhar, Kota, Bhopal, Ludhiana, Raipur and Indore.
