Germany-based self-service wholesale retailer, Metro Cash & Carry has opened its tenth wholesale centre in India, first in Delhi. Located in East Delhi and built with an investment of Rs 45 crore, the new outlet spreads over 80,000 sq.ft. and stocks over 10,000 products from fresh produce, exotics and dry grocery to FMCG products, electronics, apparel, furnishings, household appliances, white goods and branded items.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, Metro Cash & Carry India, said: “We look forward to starting our operations in this market with the opening of our Delhi centre. Delhi is a very exciting market with customers who are very quality conscious and aware of global trends. Metro offers an international wholesale experience that focuses on high quality products and customised services. We are sure that these initiatives coupled with wholesale pricing will bring significant benefits to our customers.”
The new centre will target business customers across all segments, including kiranas, retailers, restaurants, caterers, entrepreneurs, small businesses, offices, companies and institutions.
Metro Cash & Carry, a sales division of Metro Group, is present in 30 countries with around 700 self-service wholesale centres. It entered the Indian market in 2003. The company currently operates nine wholesale distribution centres including two each in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai, and one each in Kolkata, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.
