The well-known suiting and shirting brand Raymond has taken it upon itself to uplift the tailoring trade in India. Speaking at the second edition of InFashion being held in Mumbai this year, Ram Bhatnagar, VP (Emerging Businesses), Raymond, said: “There are no new professionals joining the tailoring trade any more. It is a big challenge for the industry. Realizing this, we have decided to promote and uplift this profession by opening tailoring academies on a pan-India basis.”
Raymond is going to start its very first tailoring academy in Patna with the help of the state government. It will be producing trained professionals for the industry as well as to promote entrepreneurship among the under-privileged people. These academies will be focusing on empowering the women by keeping 40 percent seats reserved for the female candidates.
Bhatnagar said: “We have decided to open 25 such academies which will produce 25,000 world-class tailors in the country in the next five years. This will not only promote self-employment for tailors but also improve the availability of quality tailoring products. It will also attract the consumers towards custom-made clothes and increase the consumption of textiles in the country.”
