Bata India reports 41% growth in net profit of Q1, 2012

Footwear retailer and manufacturer Bata India has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2012. Net profit of the company grew by 41 percent (standing at Rs 3,600 lakh) in first quarter of 2012 over the corresponding period last year, without considering gains of Rs 8,377 lakh from surplus property development. The turnover of the company grew by 31 percent (standing at Rs 40,548 lakh) as compared to Rs 31,066 lakh for the same period in 2011.

Announcing the results, Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, Group Managing Director, Bata India, said: “We are happy to announce successful results again. With an increase in the number of pairs sold, the first quarter of 2012 began on a promising note. We have continued on our strategy of expanding our retail foot print, improving our merchandising and coming up with newer and better designs. We also continue to focus on our product quality and comfort.”

Bata India continued to open new stores in the first quarter of 2012 across metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore and mini metros/tier II cities such as Ambala, Anand, Bilaspur, Hissar, Bhopal, Kannur, Indore, Bareilly, and Gaya. The company opened 61 new stores during the period. Hush Puppies brand also saw expansion with the opening of four new stores and two shop-in-shops in leading department stores in the same period.

Bata India retails through over 1,300 stores located in more than 500 cities across the country.
