Kolkata-based Onkar Group has opened what is touted to be the city’s first personalised digital apparel studio called Onkar APA’s Collection on the Lake View Road. Spread over 320 sq.ft., the store stocks Indian, partywear, and bridal collections including evening and stitched dresses, scarfs, and sarees. The company is planning to open seven such stores in the next few years in cities including Chennai, Jaipur, and Delhi.
Onkar APA’s Collection has been built with an investment of Rs 60 lakh (apart from stocks). The company claims that the designs are sourced internationally from design houses in Italy like Avant Garde and Post Studio and from Delhi and Mumbai on a domestic front. The studio is said to convert personal memories into digital art. It has recently added ladies shoes, handbags, and junk accessories to its portfolio.
Designer Shantanu Goenka’s collection, “Design by Shantanu Goenka,” is also available in the store. “The day-to-day life in India has inspired the creations of Onkar,” said Gagan Goenka, Managing Director, Onkar Group.
Onkar group is an 87-year old business house dealing with embroidery and digital printing on textile. The group claims to be the initiator of embroidery and digital printing which has set new trends and standards in fashion technology. Onkar Group was also the co-sponsor of the Wills lifestyle India Fashion Week 2011.
