Suguna Foods Plans to become a Rs 10,000 crore Company by 2017

Coimbatore-based Suguna Foods has embarked upon huge expansions in all its verticals (including feed mill, retail and ready-to-cook business) and is hoping to become a Rs 10,000 crore company by 2017. This was announced by Suguna Foods Managing Director Sundararajan GB. The company would invest Rs 150 crore annually through internal accruals for the expansions, he said.Suguna Food’s current annual revenue is over Rs 4,800 crore.

The company’s leading poultry enterprise, which is into refined soybean oil as well under the Mother’s Delight brand, is planning a foray into other value-added soyabean products such as soya chunks, soya milk, etc, which will be launched in six months time. Under the same brand, the company is planning to launch spices in the next few months.

Having tasted immense success in south India, the company is eyeing other geographies and newer regions to consolidate its presence in newer market places. It will expand its retail outlets (present in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Bangalore under the name Suguna Daily Fresh that retails fresh and ready to cook products) from the current 150 to 500 in three years. The company is also planning to set up a ready-to-eat processing plant in the northern region in 18 to 24 months. The plant will have the facility of slaughtering and processing chicken into ready to cook products.

Other major plans include setting up 2,000 quick service restaurants (QSRs) under the brand Suguna Crisp and Crunchy in another five years under the franchise model. Currently, one such QSR is present in Bangalore, and 10 more will come up by March 2014.

Suguna Foods had recently commissioned a five lakh tonne capacity Upgraded Pellet Technology Feed Mill plant located in Khadakjamb near Nasik in Maharashtra, valued at Rs 100 crore, which was funded by IDBI Bank.”The capacity of the plant is expandable to 7.5 lakh tonne; it will supply high-quality feeds for broiler, layers, and parent bird farms and other livestock in the region,” informed Sundararajan GB.
