Domino’s Pizza Touches the 11,000th Store Mark, Opens Outlet in Canada

Nearly 54 years after its founding in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Domino’s Pizza has opened its 11,000th store in the world, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The first international store for the pizza chain opened in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1983.

Patrick Doyle, President and Chief Executive Officer, Domino’s Pizza, said: “I am proud of the many people who worked hard to reach this international milestone for Domino’s Pizza. We’re thrilled we have the opportunity to celebrate our 11,000th store in Canada, where we began expanding to international markets more than 30 years ago.”

Mike Schlater, Canada master franchisee, Domino’s Pizza, added: “Domino’s international growth continues to expand, and I think it is special that we reached this milestone inCanada, the country where the international growth started. I am proud to continue serving this community by bringing the 11,000th store to Brantford.”
Jackie Young is the franchise owner of the 11,000th store which is Young’s third Domino’s store.

Domino’s international business includes more than 70 markets and accounts for more than half of its annual global retail sales, which were more than $8 billion in 2013.

Founded in 1960, Domino’s Pizza has more than 10,900 stores in over 70 international markets. Its global retail sales of over $8.0 billion in 2013, comprising nearly$3.8 billion in the US and over $4.2 billion internationally. In the first quarter of 2014, Domino’s had global retail sales of over $2.0 billion, comprising $0.9 billion in the US and $1.1 billion internationally. Franchise owner-operators accounted for over 96 percent of the Domino’s Pizza stores as of the first quarter of 2014. The emphasis on technology innovation helped Domino’s generate approximately 40 percent of sales in the US from its digital channels in 2013, as well as reach an estimated $3 billionannually in global digital sales. Domino’s recently launched its ordering app for iPad, adding to an existing ordering app lineup that covers nearly 95 percent of the U.S. smartphone market. Continuing its focus on menu enhancement, Domino’s launched Specialty Chicken in April 2014.
