During the early 2000s, the Indian retail industry was showing a tremendous growth in unorganized sector but the organized retail sector was still missing players with only two major retail chains being operated. These chains as well could not capture much of the market due to high cost and compromised product quality.
With an aim to establish a successful retail chain, CityHaat-a new department store, was started in the year 2006, providing products at the acceptable lowest price with best services for the customers. The store aimed at tier-1 and tier-2 cities where there was huge market potential for up-market retail stores providing a better shopping experience for the customers.
