Santosh Gangwar, the new textile minister is focused on a clear mission to promote the textile sector. He said that he would work towards promoting ‘Brand India’ abroad which will help boosting country’s textile exports.
Gangwar has been assigned Minister of State for Textiles. He is also junior minister, Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
He has been a Lok Sabha member since 1989, barring 2009, when he lost by a narrow margin. He was the chief whip of the BJP in the 14th Lok Sabha. This time he has won from Bareilly by a margin of over two lakh votes. Gangwar, who has been associated with social work and active politics for over three decades, was jailed during the emergency period. He also served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh State BJP working committee and held the position of General Secretary of the state BJP unit in 1996.
He earlier held ministerial posts at the Centre as Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas with additional charge of Parliament Affairs.
