Starbucks is all set to enter the burger business with La Boulange, its French bakery-cafe chain. Linda Mills of Starbucks said that La Boulange’s Los Angeles restaurant offering burgers is likely to open in June. Operating till 10 pm, apart from burgers the restaurant will also serve milkshakes, beer, cocktails and wine.
This will be the first time that a La Boulange restaurant will open in a location outside San Francisco Bay Area where the chain primarily serves breakfast and lunch with soups, sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. The La Boulange chain was acquired by Starbucks in 2012 for around $100 million cash. Besides acquiring La Boulange, recently, the company acquired Atlanta tea chain Teavana Holdings and San Bernardino juice business Evolution Fresh.
Based in Seattle, Washington Starbucks operates stores on a global scale serving whole-bean coffee, full-leaf teas, hot and cold beverages, pastries, pre-packaged food items, sandwiches, etc.
