The FIFA World Cup has spurred bulk orders in Jalandhar’s sports industry as sports goods makers are busy making 10 lakh promotional soccer balls which are to be exported to different countries, states a leading daily.
Seeing the growing demand, driven by FIFA World Cup, the sports goods makers expect the soccer balls sales to witness a 30-40 percent increase this season.
The city-based sports goods manufacturer Rattan Brothers exported 80,000 promotional balls to Brazil through an OEM player approved by FIFA, the paper mentions.
In addition to this, more than two lakh footballshave been shipped by the company to countries like Australia, France, England, Hungry, and New Zealand.
Jalandhar-based Nivia Sports, another manufacturer of sports goods, is also expecting a significant increase in its sales.
The report also mentions that some sports goods manufacturers in the city have produced balls using imported machinery to avoid competition from Pakistan and China.
