Goa-based supermarket chain Magsons is planning to introduce its e-commerce model in the near future. The retailer has already initiated the trial runs of an e-shopping platform, which it expects to roll out by the year 2016. Shedding light on the development, Kirit Maganlal, Founder & CEO, Magsons Group, stated, “Propelled by the rising digitisation of business and consumer behaviour, we too are mulling an e-shopping model. Trial runs are on and we hope to have our e-tailing model up and running by 2016. We see a great future in e-commerce in the coming years.”
As of now, Magsons operates a total of 10 stores in Goa, of which six are situated in north Goa and four in the southern part of the state. Over the last few years, the chain has been growing at a rate of 25 per cent year-on-year. For fiscal 2015, it has pegged sales revenues at Rs 50 crore. Besides venturing into online space, Magsons is also looking to expand its physical store presence, primarily through franchising. “In the coming months, we plan to roll out our first franchised store in Margao, which will be our 11th location. We are also working towards opening a store at Ponda,” Maganlal disclosed.
Operating since 1990, Magsons has focused on providing innovation in services and offerings. Its stores are equipped with the high-tech refrigeration and display equipment, shelving and merchandising tools along with a centralised 24/7 CCTV monitoring studio. Around 70 per cent of the merchandise mix consists of food items, while the balance is composed of non-food items. The chain’s USP lies in its exclusive offerings that include an assortment of frozen and chilled products, fine wines and imported food products.
