The Telangana government has initiated the Hyderabad metro rail project executed by Larsen & Toubro Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited under a concession agreement for 5+30+25 years. The project will compose of a station retail space of 0.45 million square feet area. The project also plans to allot about 60 per cent of the space to F&B outlets. L&T’s Head Corporate Communication, PR & Advertisement Business, Sanjay Kapoor says,”We expect to do business worth Rs.100 crore in 2017-18, which will be the full 72.6 km commissioning year.”
In keeping with the metro station’s safety regulations, all the outlets will have fire proof doors, as the station will be fire certified. “We are providing bare spaces, with some do’s and don’ts. Kitchens can be created by the foodservice operators but only induction cooking is allowed (no gas). Every station will have three levels of security; however, the unpaid area where retail is situated is open for all (commuters and non-commuters),” Kapoor adds.
According to Kapoor, so far, the retailers have been signed up as per a licensing model (rental). A revenue sharing model will be offered for special cases. The interiors of all stores, including trial rooms, have to be created by brands themselves, in sync with safety rules and regulations.
Kapoor states that the investment for the station retail, which is 0.45 million square feet, will be approximately Rs.275 crore. “L&T will be tying up with the best or even the second best of every possible segment in retail, from fashion, gifts, convenience stores, laundrettes, recharge and billing stores, department and grocery stores, to fast food restaurants and ice cream parlours and so on,” he discloses.
L&T contributed significantly to the successful implementation of Phase I of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Project. As a consortium partner, L&T constructed an underground corridor from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat, Mandi House underground station, and the ramp on the extension of the Barakhamba Road-Dwarka metro corridor towards Pragati Maidan.
The company also constructed the largest Delhi Metro underground station at Rajiv Chowk. In addition, the company executed a platform tunnel for the deepest station at Chawri Bazaar. L&T is also constructing underground stations at Udyog Bhavan, Saket and Green Park in Phase II of the Delhi Metro.
