Ending a year’s wait, David Cheesewright, President and CEO, Walmart International is on his first ever visit to India; he was earlier slated to visit the country in January.
During his visit, Chessewright took out time to interact with farmer suppliers at Hyderabad Best Price Modern Wholesale store. Walmart India owns and operates 20 Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in eight states across India.
During a conversation with Cheesewright, farmer D.K.Murali said, “Walmart India’s supply chain has benefited me in many ways. By being part of this assured market, I have increased my income level which has given a positive impact on my life”. Murali has been supplying exotic vegetables, coloured capsicums, cherry tomatoes and polyhouse tomatoes to the Best Price store in Hyderabad since 2014.
In other news, Walmart reportedly plans to open its 21st wholesale outlet in India and second store in Agra by end of year 2015. “We have recently received all internal approvals for opening a new store in Agra. Our team is working towards procuring all relevant licences and permits,” Rajneesh Kumar, vice-president corporate affairs, Walmart India has been quoted as saying.
