At one minute after midnight i.e. 00:01 tonight, iPhone enthusiasts will be able to get their hands on new iPhones (6s and 6s plus) delivered conveniently at their doorsteps, claims Gurgaon-based on-demand hyperlocal mobile app Grofers.
Coinciding with the India launch of the much awaited iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on October 15 midnight, Grofers will be exclusively starting the midnight deliveries on the exact day and time of the launch. The company has partnered with Reliance Digital to deliver the iPhones to customers who have pre-ordered the phone. With this move, the delivery service that allows customers to shop for groceries, fresh food, bakery products, cosmetics and other daily need items from neighbourhood stores is taking hyperlocal deliveries to the next level.
“This will be the first for India and probably the world that iPhones will be delivered within minutes after the midnight launch. Several people from senior management along with other employees will be personally delivering the iPhones at midnight,” Dhruv Arora, Category Head for Electronics, Grofers, said.
The price of iPhone 6s is pegged at Rs 62,000 (16GB),Rs 72,000 (64GB) and Rs 82,000 (128GB) while the larger-screen 6s Plus will cost Rs 72,000 (16GB),Rs 82,000 (64GB) and Rs 92,000 (128GB).
Grofers started taking pre-bookings for iPhones from Saturday (October 10) and since then the traffic and overall engagement on the app has gone up by 30 per cent.
“Since we’ve added pre-bookings of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, we have seen an overall jump of 30% i.e. 30% more engagement on the app and social media. We’ve grown 200% in the number of net orders since the previous month in the electronics category,” Dhruv Bhutiani, AVP, Sales, Grofers told Indiretailing.
“We got our first two pre-bookings of iPhone 6s in the first three minutes. And 80% of our consumers who have booked iPhones have opted for midnight deliveries on October 15,” he added, without divulging the number of pre-orders the company has clocked till date.
The phones will be delivered across 10 cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
Apple, which has sold 1.7 million iPhones in India between October 2014 and September 2015, the company’s financial year, compared to 1.1 million units in the corresponding previous financial year, is all set to debut in India with its ‘Apple Store’ in partnership with Tata-owned consumer electronics chain Croma, which will host Apple at six of its locations as a pilot.
