Nestle India has resumed manufacturing of Maggi noodles at its Pantnagar factory in Uttarakhand, after a five-month of non-production at the site due to the ban imposed on sale of the product. This is the fourth factory which is currently manufacturing the two-minute noodles.
Nestle chairman and MD Suresh Narayanan said the firm has reached out to over 600 towns and cities, covered about two lakh outlets and has sold over 4.5 crore packs of Maggi noodles since re-launching.
“The re-launch has had a refreshing effect upon employees and across the supply chain as thousands of farmers, distributors, suppliers and retailers are happy to be part of this,” he said.
Nestle said the ban order imposed by the Government of Uttarakhand was only upto September 30, 2015 and the order passed by national food regulator Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) has been set aside by Bombay High Court. “We are yet to start production in Tahliwal (Himachal Pradesh) and are engaging with the authorities and other stakeholders for necessary clearance,” Nestle said.
Maggi noodles was banned by FSSAI in June on allegations of it containing lead in excess of permissible limits. But in mid October, after getting clearances by Bombay High Court authorised labs, Nestle resumed production of Maggi and relaunched the noodles earlier this month.
