India’s leading natural health and personal care company, Dabur India Ltd was awarded the Good Corporate Citizen of the Year 2015 award by leading industry association PHDCCI for it’s outstanding contribution to social development and community services, environmental impacts and economics. Union Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh presented the award to Dabur India Ltd, Chairman of CSR Board Committee, Dr Ajay Dua and Dabur India Ltd, Head CSR, A Sudhakar. The nearly 131-year-old Dabur India Ltd has been actively involved in community development initiatives since 1994. “At Dabur, our commitment to good governance, ethical conduct and social responsibility is core to our way of doing business, and is strongly aligned with our drive to create and increase value for all stakeholders. We define Community Development and CSR as conducting business in ways that provide social, environmental and economic benefits for the communities and geographies where we operate,” Sudhakar said.
Dabur’s community outreach initiatives have been developed keeping in mind the specific needs of the communities where it operates. The company has been organising health camps in various villages across the country; running non-formal education centres for underprivileged children; operating livelihood training centres to empower rural women, besides building toilets in rural India to protect the dignity of women. Dabur India Ltd had recently announced its decision to adopt 5 villages in the state of Uttar Pradesh and make them ‘open-defecation free’ within the current 2015-16 fiscal. Under this initiative, the company will ensure that all households in these five villages have toilets. Besides, the 20-odd schools in these villages would also get separate toilets blocks for boys and girls. In addition, the company has identified five other villages in Uttar Pradesh, besides 6 villages in Uttarakhand and two in Himachal Pradesh for construction of household toilets.
