During the coming Vishu season, as a part of poison-free vegetables for Vishu campaign, the CPM is planning to open 1,500 organic vegetable outlets. Vegetables will be available at affordable prices at these stalls.
From last November onwards, the party has already initiated the cultivation of vegetables in 25,000 across the state. The scheme is being implemented with the support of cooperative societies, local bodies and Kudumbashree units. Arrangements have also been made to transport organic vegetables from districts where they are in surplus, and distribute in those districts where the vegetables are in short supply.
The party initiated the campaign against the backdrop of the widespread practice of selling vegetables containing pesticides and other harmful residues during festivals like Vishu. During last Onam, the party has tasted the success by launching a campaign to provide pesticide-free organic vegetables. This is a continuation of that campaign.
Apart from this, the campaign is also intended to check the rise in prices of the commodities.
