Pune jewellers shut shop again; demand roll back

Must Read

It has been barely ten days, the jewellers had called off their 41 day strike, that Pune traders have again closed their shops today.

“We will shut shops for three days – from Monday to Wednesday. We were waiting for the Parliament session to resume and go through the proposal which we had sent before we resumed business,” Director, Ranka Jewellers, Vastupal Ranka was quoted by TNN as saying. Ranka is also a member of the Maharashtra Rajya Saraf Suvarnakar Federation.

Parliament is supposed to discuss the 1 per cent excise duty issue on Monday. As per Ranka, the strike has been called to support the cut motion, the traders are expecting to be passed in the Parliament.

“The situation will be clearer by Wednesday. Our first demand is the rollback of the excise,” Ranka was quoted by TNN as saying.

The National Capital will see a ‘Maha Rally’ today, as the jewellers will be on road to pressurise the Government, so that their demands are approved.

Unlike Pune, some jewellers’ associations are not in favour of closing their shops. Infact All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation have separated themselves from the strike.
