Chinese internet and technology conglomerate LeEco has recently announced that it has hired top Qualcomm executive Jaiteerth Patwari as Research and Development Head for LeMall, the company’s online shopping site in the country.
Patwari will set up and head the development centre at LeMall.
“We are very delighted to bring Jaiteerth on board, who will bring with him a wealth of experience which we’re sure will be fruitful for us in our India journey,” said Atul Jain, COO of Smart Electronics Business, LeEco India, in a statement.
Patwari worked with mobile processor supplier Qualcomm for 14 years and will now set up and head the development centre at LeMall India. He developed patents for innovations related to content monetization and distribution in Qualcomm. He is known for rolling out the world’s first Qualcomm mobile application store and messaging products.
“I am thrilled to join the LeEco family at such a critical junction of its growth journey in India. In the next couple of months, we will look at aggressively scaling up operations for LeMall in India,” added Patwari.
LeEco India is headquartered in Bengaluru and has ove 200 employees. The company aims to become over 1000 people-strong by the end of 2016.
LeMall R&D is looking to hire 50 more engineers to build highly scalable distributed e-commerce platform.
The company is looking at setting up 5-10 flagship stores in key cities within the next 3-6 months of getting the approvals. The company has already filed an application with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) seeking approval for opening single brand retail shops in the country.
