The home and kitchen segment of e-commerce major Amazon.in has grown by nearly 165 per cent in Jan-Jun period of this year compared to the same period last year and the firm expects to either sustain or better the figure during the remaining months of the calendar year.
“While the home category grew by 200 per cent, kitchen grew at 135 per cent during the review period,” Director, Category Management, Amazon Sellers Services Pvt Ltd, Sumit Sahay was quoted by PTI as saying.
With 45,000 sellers on its platform, the company has witnessed a strong growth in the category from the Tier-II and Tier-III cities with nearly 60 per cent of the orders coming from outside the top eight cities in the country, he said.
As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, the state saw a growth of 160 per cent, with kitchen storage, containers and tools like screwdrivers, being the most popular sub-category, he said.
In tune with the national trend, home was the fastest growing sub-category, which witnessed 200 per cent growth in the last one year, he said, adding, Coimbatore was the most active city under the home and kitchen category, accounting for nearly 10 per cent of demand from the state.
To a question on supply base, Sahay said that at present, the company has 22 warehouses across the country, including one in Chennai and five more will be added this year, with three in Tamil Nadu.
